Rejoice my brothers! The Endurance Gods have listened to our prayers!

Of course, they’ll have to win in the super season, because Akio won’t stand losing to a bunch of empty pockets, rolling billboards privateers.

Earlier today, the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! in competition form with the introduction of a new top class. Toyota’s decision to show its hybrid concept, which looks close to the form that will be adopted by such models, therefore hints at intentions to be part of this new pack.

Autocar is awaiting comment from Toyota regarding its Le Mans showing, but it suggests both the engineering and design of the GR Super Sport foreshow what’s to come with a future Le Mans model and a roadgoing equivalent.

First shown at the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , the concept is based on the company’s World Endurance Championship prototype racer, the TS050 Hybrid. The concept features the same carbonfibre structure as the racing model and has a 2.4-litre V6 petrol engine with electric assistance behind its cockpit.

The LMP1-category TS050, which is competing in this year’s championship and will start from pole at the crowning Le Mans 24 Hours round this weekend, delivers a combined 987bhp to all four wheels. The provisional regulations for the hypercar-based 2020 Le Mans class would cap power outputs at 965bhp, however.

If Gazoo Racing’s concept does spawn a road model, it will sit above the new !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

The Yaris GRMN sticks with turbocharged petrol power, but the Supra, which has been part-developed alongside the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , is due with four and six-cylinder engines, the latter of which will be available with electronic assistance.

Gazoo president Shigeki Tomoyama said: “If the e-Palette concept [ !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ] is the next generation of the horse-drawn carriage, the GR Super Sport Concept would be the polar opposite as the next-generation racehorse. Its appeal is more personal, like that of a much-loved horse to its owner.

“Despite the differences between the two concept models, both are electrified vehicles equipped with the latest IT technologies and are set to become safe and environmentally friendly connected cars.”

Great write up! I’m honestly surprised they all don’t do this. Even if they sold it with “last years” tech, as to not give their current secrets away, surely there are billionaires out there who would buy an LMP track toy

And regarding their normal road cars, I’ll say as someone who can’t really take modern Toyota “performance” models too seriously, I am very intrigued by Gazoos involvement in their upcoming models. Hopefully it’s a legit, race-proven, driver-focused injection of performance and not just more power and bigger wheels.

“Yes TW, I’ve got my new hypercar delivered yesterday, it costs (insert any number between 1 and 5 million dollars here), its bloody quick, by it has a weird badge on it, I think my butler has the same badge on his small car. Preposterous!”

What’s wrong with Toyota’s performance models (there is zero need for scare quotes)?

The GT86/BRZ is brilliant for what it is.

The Lexus models are also very good for what they are. The RC F is a fun, exciting, yet still easy to drive and live with sports coupe. The GS F is a brilliant 4-door sports car that is fun, and exciting to drive, has room for 4 people and their stuff, sounds amazing, and has incredibly approachable performance. The LC 500 is world-class luxury in a gorgeous sports-GT car.

Sure, these models might not offer the utmost in terms of power figures, or the best lap times. But, no one drives on a closed-course racetrack every single day, so they instead offer more readily approachable performance for every day driving.

If you want to have the biggest ‘numbers’ (using quotes to imply that I’m using that word instead of penis) on the internet, then, by all meas buy something faster, or more powerful, or stylistically more acceptable to your personal taste.

Discounting Toyota entirely because, “They only make boring cars.” just makes a person sound like an elitist badge-snob.
